Dron Kalkanı in the press
Dron Kalkanı, developed under the leadership of Turaç, was widely covered by the Turkish and international press following the Anadolu Agency report of 21 September 2026; the system was exhibited for the first time at the 21st MÜSİAD EXPO on 23–26 September 2026. This page archives the coverage with its sources and is updated as new reports are published.
Key points
- An autonomous close-range air defence system that physically destroys mini and micro UAVs as well as FPV and kamikaze drones.
- Two 12-gauge semi-automatic Derya MAX shotguns operate simultaneously on a pan-tilt robotic turret, firing Sterling-branded 12-gauge magnum anti-drone ammunition.
- Electro-optical and acoustic sensors track the target from 600–800 metres; at 150 metres simultaneous fire creates a metal cloud roughly 2 metres across.
- Detection is fully passive and the system is also effective against fibre-optic-controlled drones that cannot be jammed.
- ITU ARC artificial intelligence classifies the target and computes the firing solution on the turret without an operator; roughly 6 seconds from detection to defeat against a fast FPV drone.
- Integrates on land and naval vehicles, fixed sites and unmanned ground vehicles; low power consumption needs no extra generator.
- A distribution network in more than 90 countries and NSPA supplier status provide a ready basis for export; the system is planned to be operational and in serial production by year end.
The system does not depend on a person or a remote control. It scans the entire sky and detects threats. It has become clear that these drones have to be shot down and destroyed.
